In my Art class, we are working on making pots. My Art teacher is Ms. Baker. So far we have made the bottoms. Next class we are going to make the tops. We are making them out of clay. Your hands get really dirty. I chose to write about this, because I really like Art class. Also pots seem like fun things to make. On the top or the bottom of the pot we are going to put an animal or something like that on them. I am going to put a horse on mine. I think this is important because I think making pots is really fun so far. I like making pots because I like to be able to use the clay and it gets my hands messy. People say if you’re having fun, you’re getting messy.
I’m going to stop talking about making pots, and start talking about some other things my class has done in Art class. We painted self portraits, sunflower scenes, and did some weaving. For the self portraits, Ms. Baker (our Art teacher) helped us learn how to draw mouths, noses, and eyes. It took about four weeks to paint our portraits. On to the flower paintings. We did a sketch of what we were going to paint. Then we drew and painted our flowers. It took probably about three weeks to do the whole thing. Our weaving… well not a lot of people have finished yet. But when we were still making them, I thought that it was really fun. I thought it was fun because you got to choose the colors and you could make up your own designs.

Dear Writers,

I know that many of you are wanting to complete the poetry piece for your portfolio. Here is an idea! Pick some letters of the alphabet and choose a garden word that starts with that letter. Just like the book I read in Forum and the share we did in Morning Meeting. Then, use some describing words to add detail to that word. Remember, poetry can rhyme or not. Don’t force your writing to rhyme, just be sure to make it descriptive and feel right for you! I suggest typing in Word first so you have a copy for your portfolio, then paste it as a comment. Here’s my example:

B for broccoli, growing in a bunch. I never used to like it, but it’s now tasty to munch.

S is for seeds, so tiny and small. A little love and care will bring them alive!

R for rain, it used to be a pain when it cancelled my baseball game. Now I’ve learned to love it for the way it make it makes my garden green.

Y is for yummy. The taste of homegrown veggies can’t be beat. I look forward to harvesting when I get to eat!
