Garden Poetry

Dear Writers,

I know that many of you are wanting to complete the poetry piece for your portfolio.  Here is an idea!  Pick some letters of the alphabet and choose a garden word that starts with that letter.  Just like the book I read in Forum and the share we did in Morning Meeting.  Then, use some describing words to add detail to that word.  Remember, poetry can rhyme or not.  Don’t force your writing to rhyme, just be sure to make it descriptive and feel right for you!  I suggest typing in Word first so you have a copy for your portfolio, then paste it as a comment.  Here’s my example:

B for broccoli, growing in a bunch.  I never used to like it, but it’s now tasty to munch.

S is for seeds, so tiny and small.  A little love and care will bring them alive!

R for rain, it used to be a pain when it cancelled my baseball game.  Now I’ve learned to love it for the way it make it makes my garden green.

Y is for yummy.  The taste of homegrown veggies can’t be beat.  I look forward to harvesting when I get to eat!

Well done you two! You got the class off to a creative start. Good word “spiky” is. The description of lettuce is a great image, like fluffy lettuce in a bag. Keep the poems coming.

Wow! The poems are really taking off here at the end. I like how many of you began extending into longer, more descriptive poems. Jackiejourney, you seemed to get people excited to do Acrostic poems – well done! Carlyevan, you got some real names of veggies in yours. You are learning a lot about gardening. Phia and Mariah, I like the words you used to make your poems and you included some interesting words. Kyla and Nfcasson, you really extended! The whole alphabet! You both used some strong describing words. Thanks for taking the time to go beyond expectations! You motivated me to do another:
L is for long blades
A stands for another mowing needed
W for the water I give
N is for nutrients, pulled from the soil

I would love a garden update. Will somebody start a new post about what you are doing with Andrew?

Up top down low plants don’t grow in the snow.

tman – thanks for adding more. I like how much this new one rhymes! I’m still wishing for a garden update. Can someone talk to your teacher and maybe find some time? Good luck.

Nfcasson and Kyla,

Why did you want to do the whole alphabet? I think it is because you are both very creative. Am I right? Please post your ansewer!
