You saw a presentation about some of the historical buildings in Williston, Vermont. Some of the buildings in town still look like they originally did, but they have been renovated so they can remain standing and be used. Some of the others have either burned down or been torn down. Brand new buildings have been built in their place. Do you think the town should save the old buildings or build new ones? Post your ideas and opinions about this topic!

I think that we should renovate the buildings because the building could be a famous building and they just need repairs. It could be fine but have rotten wood.
I think that yes we should renovate historic buildings because kids like visuals, activities, and games when learning because it’s more interactive. So if you leave the historic buildings up kids will learn more.
I think that the buildings should be reinvaded because each building has history in it. You tear the buildings down you have lost the history! And think, when you enter a building in Williston It could have been there hundreds of years! I think feeling like that feels great! Why get rid of that feeling.
Keep or destroy?
I think they should keep the old buildings of Williston because the old buildings are a symbol of Williston. But I still think they should keep making improvements to the buildings so they don’t fall down.
Another reason I think they should keep the buildings is because they’re still used. The buildings are very cool to look at them. I think they are more fun to look at in person than a picture because you look closer at the building real life.
I think we should tear down the buildings and make new ones. Because if we keep them we will just have to fix them again. If we build new ones we wont have to fix them for a while longer. I also think it would be cool if we had new buildings to see what they would look like, because they would be different then the old ones. If we fix the new ones that might cost more money then using the same wood to build new buildings. It’s not always bad to have a change. A new building usually has more space and look nicer.
So far it sounds like most of you want to keep the buildings. How did today either support your ideas or change them? Nfcasson, you really made a strong argument about keeping living history around. Tman98, I feel like you do about learning more when actually visiting something verses a picture. Kyla, do you think that you learned more looking at them today? Please share your feelings after the walk today.
Carlyevan, I think that you have a good point saying that older buildings just need constant work. New buildings are fun to see go up and change is often good. How do you feel after seeing the buildings today? Should we keep them or tear them down? Why?

I think that you actually learn the same interactive or not, but kids LIKE more interactive stuff. I also think that it wasn’t really that interactive because we didn’t go in the buildings or anything that was interactive we just walked, but it was still better than sitting in the classroom all day.

I THINK THAT WE SHOULD SAVE THE OLD BUILDINGS SO STUDENTS CAN LEARN OUR FAMOUS HISTORY. ALSO WE CAN SAVE MONEY BY NOT TEARING THEM DOWN. ALSO, SOME OF THE BUILDINGS MIGHT BE IMPORTANT LIKE THE OLD BRICK CHURCH.
I think that we should renovate the buildings. If we tear them down, we could be destroying some Williston history! besides everyone likes the old building’s and they are still being used.that’s why i think we should renovate the building’s.
Should workers add on to Williston’s historical buildings or rebuild?

Well, I think that the workers should add on to Williston’s historical buildings because, and then if we do, the new buildings will have parts of old and historical buildings of Williston.
I think that would be more traditional and nice to have parts of old historical buildings. It’s awesome that we could have actual historical stuff form Williston instead of just looking at a picture.
I also think they should be able to start from scratch, because if the building is in bad condition, the workers will probably have a hard time working on the building.
that we should renovate old see them so renovate buildings construction companies. So please renovate for history. Buildings. So that when baby get older they can see old buildings that where here when we were kids. There also good looking buildings. There also are hysterical buildings. So that’s why we should renovate old buildings for little kids, and more people can see them.
I think that we should save some buildings peaces. Because some buildings might be good things to show to kids for there classes so they can learn about history.

I disagree with you that we should add on to the buildings. I think we should build new ones.
I think they should knock down the old buildings and build new ones. I like to see a new color and new chairs, desk, floors, and more. Also I think old buildings look weird inside, and have weird floors, and smell funny.
I think that we should renovate the old buildings and if we have to tear them down just move them.

I don’t think that people should add on to historical buildings. I think they should stay the same as they were built. Then they should put the date from when they were finished being built and opened.

I agree with you Jema80! Because if you add more on to the buildings there is history in them, and who doesn’t like change! Who doesn’t like looking at new bulidings, but who dosent like having old historical buildings?!?
I think that we should renovate some of the buildings. I think we should keep as many buildings as possible but if there is a building that is really wrecked I think we should tear it down and build a knew one.

I am writing a report about why it is inportant to save old buildings in williston. I think that it is important to save old buildings, because alot of these buildings have a lot of history and is important to maintane that history in that buildings. So if you have an old building, dont tier it down because alot of people whant to see it.

Nfcasson, you have an interesting ideas - adding to older buildings is a nice mix of having old with the new. Do you remember what building the town did that with? I agree with you bigtime! People probably have already torn down some of Willistons history. And who doesn’t want to have any history left?
