I’ve been busy in my first few days off from teaching. I have posted a familiar picture that I took while traveling last weekend. I know you will know what it is, but what do you know about it? What is the story behind it? I encourage you to post the facts you find. Try it in your own words please!
In my Art class, we are working on making pots. My Art teacher is Ms. Baker. So far we have made the bottoms. Next class we are going to make the tops. We are making them out of clay. Your hands get really dirty. I chose to write about this, because I really like Art class. Also pots seem like fun things to make. On the top or the bottom of the pot we are going to put an animal or something like that on them. I am going to put a horse on mine. I think this is important because I think making pots is really fun so far. I like making pots because I like to be able to use the clay and it gets my hands messy. People say if you’re having fun, you’re getting messy.
I’m going to stop talking about making pots, and start talking about some other things my class has done in Art class. We painted self portraits, sunflower scenes, and did some weaving. For the self portraits, Ms. Baker (our Art teacher) helped us learn how to draw mouths, noses, and eyes. It took about four weeks to paint our portraits. On to the flower paintings. We did a sketch of what we were going to paint. Then we drew and painted our flowers. It took probably about three weeks to do the whole thing. Our weaving… well not a lot of people have finished yet. But when we were still making them, I thought that it was really fun. I thought it was fun because you got to choose the colors and you could make up your own designs.
I know that many of you are wanting to complete the poetry piece for your portfolio. Here is an idea! Pick some letters of the alphabet and choose a garden word that starts with that letter. Just like the book I read in Forum and the share we did in Morning Meeting. Then, use some describing words to add detail to that word. Remember, poetry can rhyme or not. Don’t force your writing to rhyme, just be sure to make it descriptive and feel right for you! I suggest typing in Word first so you have a copy for your portfolio, then paste it as a comment. Here’s my example:
B for broccoli, growing in a bunch. I never used to like it, but it’s now tasty to munch.
S is for seeds, so tiny and small. A little love and care will bring them alive!
R for rain, it used to be a pain when it cancelled my baseball game. Now I’ve learned to love it for the way it make it makes my garden green.
Y is for yummy. The taste of homegrown veggies can’t be beat. I look forward to harvesting when I get to eat!
As I said in class, this date is an important one for grown ups. Do you know why? In addition to what this date represents for adults, there are some other major historical events that happened on this date. Do some research and post your answers. I would appreciate some web links if you find a spot that gives answers. Ask me for help! Good luck.
Earlier this week we read an article about Earth Day. We learned about a school that works hard to learn about the environment and take care of it. I’m sure that you do a lot in your lives that you might not realize. Share what your familiy does at home. What else do you think that you could do to save resources, reduce waste, and protect the planet?
Here is a short video made by students just like you! Check it out for some ideas.
Hello Geologists! I hope that you take the time to check out these links. I was amazed to see how much geological activity goes on all the time. Please post a comment and let me know if you visited the sites and what you think about it. Have fun exploring!
In Guidance these past weeks we have each gotten a job, house, and decided stuff like what cars we want, what pets we want, and other activities we like to do. We each live in a neighborhood with three or four other people. I live in the Rich bekuzgyz (L, 6), I have three cars, I have a black lab named Pippen, and I am going to get something else, I like to bike, I went to college for two years and then trained with an experienced paramedic, and now I’m a paramedic, I volunteer at the animal shelter and I’m 32 years old. What’s your life like? (In Guidance.)
The second challenge question topic to be posted is about the arrival of spring. While this date has already passed, I challenge you to research this topic. What does the term mean? What happens on this date? Here is a short video I found. I challenge you to prove it true or false!
This week’s Challenge Question is about St. Patrick’s Day. We know that you are supposed to wear green and that leprechauns sneak around, but why? Research the history behind this day.
You saw a presentation about some of the historical buildings in Williston, Vermont. Some of the buildings in town still look like they originally did, but they have been renovated so they can remain standing and be used. Some of the others have either burned down or been torn down. Brand new buildings have been built in their place. Do you think the town should save the old buildings or build new ones? Post your ideas and opinions about this topic!
